Did you now that 43% of adults have a long-standing medical condition?
How do you define your health? Most people would say if you ‘feel’ good then you are healthy.
Here are a few definitions of health:
- A condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit
- A condition in which someone or something is thriving or doing well
- A relative state in which one is able to function well physically, mentally, socially and spiritually in order to express the full range of one’s unique potentialities within the environment.
Interestingly there is nothing in these definitions about pain. Because ECS believe that health is more than the absence of pain or injury. We approach your health in a different way – wanting to keep you healthy rather than waiting for something to go wrong.
What health is NOT: a state of being free from illness or injury. This is selling you and your health short. Why settle for an absence of illness rather than better function. This is not loving or caring to your body – don’t forget, you only get one body. Be kind to it!!
How do we reach HEALTH then?
- Diet: What you put into your body today is your bodies building blocks for tomorrow – your cells are constantly dying and growing so what you eat today determines how healthy your new cells will be tomorrow.
- Rest: Sleep is when your body has the best ability and opportunity to heal, restore itself, regenerate and adapt. Poor sleep is linked to a plethora of health conditions and disease.
- Exercise: We all know how exercise is vital in terms of good health – your body is designed to move. Did you know that certain areas of your body get their nutrients via movement?
- Adjustments: having your subluxations corrected – allowing your nervous system, brain and body to be better connected and better functioning.
- Mindfulness: keeping your emotional stress levels low protects you from certain chronic diseases – your body will be less adaptable and will find healing more challenging when you are in a state of stress.
But how does Chiropractic come into health?
Chiropractors are specialists in assessing and correcting spinal subluxations. Subluxations are when your spinal joints have less motion, reduced mobility, or function. This reduces how well your nerves and nervous system communicate and relay information to your brain, causing your brain to function poorly. By correcting your subluxations, you will have a better functioning brain and nervous system which could lead to better performance and health!
Chiropractic care helps facilitate your body’s ability to adapt, restore and heal from what life throws at you.
